“I Love My Life”

If I had to describe my life in one word, I think the word I would choose is fun. I was in a bad car accident when I was a baby because someone decided to drive drunk. That accident changed me and my family forever. As a result, I became legally blind, lost a sister, and the loss goes on. I wish I could change things and bring my sister back, but I love my life just like it is.

I grew up having low vision, so I don’t know any different. I started learning braille when I was three. I had several great teachers, including vision instructors, and great parents as well. Despite my vision loss, I did well in school growing up and even graduated in the middle of my class. Learning to read in braille was a big part of that success.

As an adult, I have had a very full life experience, including travel and a variety of different jobs including teaching several different age groups from babies to adults. I have even taken Sign Language classes and participated in many speaking engagements. I guess you can say I have done it all. The thing I am the most proud of is my role as a mother. I am a mom of two beautiful children - a newborn and a 2 year old. Although I have my hands full, they are good kids who make my life fun. I love my life and would not trade it for anything in the world.
